Chair massage utilizes specially made massage chairs to provide massage treatments for the neck, back, and upper extremities. It is especially beneficial because of its convenience; the therapist can quickly and easily set up on-site and the client doesn’t need to fully disrobe for the session. Chair massage can be performed in public areas and is a great way to give short, focused treatments for areas of great need. This type of mobile massage is often incorporated into office wellness programs and can also be found at sporting events, public festivals, gatherings, and markets.
Chair Massage for Corporate Wellness
Because of how the chair is designed, chair massage targets the neck, shoulders, back, arms and hands, which are common trouble spots for the body in the modern world. This is especially true for modern office workers, who spend long days sitting working on the computer. This type of massage therapy is great for those who need a quick massage on the neck and shoulders that can help relieve the pain and tension of desk work. The treatment is quick, convenient, rejuvenating.
The Colorado Body Wisdom team is available for hire for your next event or to come work on your team at your place of business. Chair Massage is great for employee appreciation, or as part of a regular wellness program. We currently work with a number of corporate offices to provide regular care for their employees. Additionally, chair massage is a great addition to bridal showers, or as brand promotion for prospective customers at corporate and community events. We offer varying intervals of chair massage treatments in a variety of modalities, all performed by our experienced massage therapists. History of Chair Massage
People have been giving seated back and neck massages as a way to bring relaxation and relief to the body for thousands of years. Massage was first used in corporate settings in Japan. Shiatsu (hotlink), a form of massage therapy performed on the floor in full clothing, was introduced as a means to promote wellness in workers in the increasingly industrialized culture. Bosses understood that by preventing illness and promoting wellness, they wouldn’t have to bear the expenses of sick employees.
Chair massage as it is practiced in the US began with the invention of the specialized massage chair created by David Palmer in 1968. The basic design was clunky, named “a chair in a box,” but it provided a way for the massage therapist to access the back, neck, head, and arms, without the client falling to one side, or needing to be held up by the massage therapist. Since the first introduction of the chair massage, massage chairs have undergone significant upgrades. However, the idea remains the same: to provide an easy means to bring massage therapy out of the spa and into a wide variety of settings. Today, a wide variety of massage therapists use massage chairs to perform sports massage, Thai massage, structural work, shiatsu, reflexology, Swedish massage and more.
