Car Accident Injuries: How Massage Therapy Restores Homeostasis

Car accidents can be deeply traumatizing, both physically and emotionally. Even a low-impact car accident can cause significant injuries to the body. Massage therapy is a great tool to help the body return to homeostasis, providing soothing relaxation to calm the nervous system and myofascial interventions to assist in healing injuries and mitigating their impact.

The Most Common Car Accident Injury Is Whiplash

The most common injury from even minor car accidents is whiplash. It is caused by an abrupt backward and/or forward jerking of the head, which causes unnatural strain on the structures of the neck and back. While whiplash is most commonly associated with car accidents, it can also occur from contact sports or any other impact injury.

Common side effects of whiplash are: acute pain; stiffness and soreness in the neck shoulders, and back; numbness and tingling in the extremities; lower back pain; headaches; difficulty in concentration; fatigue; dizziness; sleep disorders; and general irritability. Any combination of these side effects can quickly make dealing with everyday life stressful, painful, and exhausting.

Healing the neck and accompanying structures from whiplash often involves many tactics, but massage therapy can be an important component.

Why Massage For Whiplash And Other Car Accident Injuries?

At Colorado Body Wisdom, our massage therapists take a focused but gentle approach to relieve pain, heal the body, and bring it back into balance. We use a marriage of smooth, light strokes, trigger point, myofascial release, deep tissue massage, as well as focused craniosacral therapy and trauma work.

Our blended treatments for whiplash and motor vehicle accident traumas help to regulate the musculoskeletal and nervous system functions. Using this multi-faceted approach, our massage therapists are able to address both the superficial strain in the soft tissue, provide increased circulation to speed the healing process, and liberate contracted deep fascia and scar tissue, which can tighten around local nerves and cause chronic problems.

Addressing soft tissue injuries and strains with massage therapy directly after an injury can help to avoid the development of chronic neck and back problems. This multifaceted approach allows us to not only work with the structural impacts of car accidents, but also the mental and emotional stress and pain that often accompany high impact injuries.

Working Alongside Your Doctor And Insurance Company

In order to know if massage therapy is the right choice to help you recover from your car accident or other impact injuries, we require that you first consult with your physician/chiropractor to rule out any more serious injuries. From there, all of the massage therapists at Colorado Body Wisdom are happy to work alongside your physician and/or chiropractor, follow any medical directives, and supply any necessary paperwork.

We accept medical payment plans from car insurance companies to cover post-accident therapy (Med-Pay). When working with insurance companies, Colorado Body Wisdom handles all the billing and correspondence so you can focus on your rehabilitation.
